Commitment - With Rev. Dr Obi Peters

Ist service: Sunday 7am

TextPhil 2:3-9, Jn 1-2,

When grace is not appreciated, disgrace will be inevitable. Grace is not static; grace is elastic in nature. It is given in a way that it can accommodate anything that comes its way. The blessings of reward can be represented as an ocean, a seed; everything is contained in this seed. It’s your diving that reproduces the outcome of your reward in life.

Before the coming of Jesus, He was simply the word; no man could see him revealed in a different dimension. No one could see this glory; He was only the word of God-

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.” [Jn 1-2 KJV]

When Isaiah was talking about Jesus, he said that there was nothing good to behold about him, he was talking about Jesus’ service.

[“Let] nothing [be done] through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:[Philippians 2:3-9KJV]

Service is one thing that reveals your scars. Any service that does not produce scars and tears is not worthy to be called service. Anytime you come to service and you have not come to the place where you begin to cry, you have not started to serve.

I want to show you the 3 dimensions of service that can produce for a man like magic; that will make -

3 Dimensions of Service:

  1. Commitment
  2. Dedication
  3. Sacrifice

These 3 dimensions of service are progression-al, there are revealed at different points-

When Moses said in the time of Korah, “if I be a man of God, let the earth open up and swallow..,” it was Jesus that was at work, doing it from behind. It was not God or an angel.

“But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that [appertain] unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that [was] under them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that [appertained] unto Korah, and all [their] goods.”[Numbers 16:30-32 KJV]

The first thing Jesus showed at the age of 12 was commitment.

What is commitment?

It’s knowing what you‘re going for. It’s knowing your purpose. It’s knowing why you need undergo training. It’s knowing what to do. Commitment is when other men are dragging their feet, and you are not.

“Men who do not know commitment are men who do things with the spirit of strip and seeking vain glory.”

I came here to tell you that if you must succeed, you need the mind of Christ.

At age 12 Professors were marveled at the words that were coming out of the mouth of Jesus Christ. Let this same mind be in you which was in Christ.

The first stage of service to God is commitment; it is the childish stage- knowing what you are going for, knowing your purpose.

If you still serve God and live as a believer that does eye service, you are not born again. If all you do is for men to see you and applaud you, you are not yet born again.

What is dedication?

Setting yourself aside for the assignment. Consecrating yourself for the goal.

“It’s only a baby that hears bad thing about himself and says he can not serve anymore. He says, “I don’t want to be in the choir or ushering department anymore.”

 Your opinion is secondary!

Dedication will make you when men slap and abuse you as an usher, you look at them and say God bless you. No matter what men say about you, it does not change you.

Dedicated men are men who don’t need anyone to follow them up. They are dedicated to their work.

What is a Sacrifice?

“No sacrifice is smiling. No sacrifice is jumping and dancing. No sacrifice is beautiful, but when it is offered, it is beautiful.”

As a sacrifice, your blood, money and energy will flow. No matter what a sacrifice sees, it must be offered. A man who understands sacrifice, submits his entire life, money and time to the Supreme [God] like Jesus.

“…Not My will but Your will be done.”

Pastor’s Prayer: I pray for somebody today, that the mind of Christ will reign in you.

Prayer Confession: Lord, give me the grace to go beyond commitment and step into sacrifice.

Phil 2:3-9, Jn 1-2,
